Stellar's Jay Brut 2015

Time Waits For No One Monastrell

Stellar's Jay Brut 2015

The Stellar's Jay Brut has been in production since 1989. Which basically means it is as old as the wine industry in British Columbia! It's produced by Sumac Ridge winery in Summerland, BC and is consistently a standard of BC sparkling wine.

We opened it camping (surprise, surprise) this year at Kekuli Bay. It's poured a pale golden yellow, just like the dry grasses in the north Okanagan where we were. Medium bodied with well-balanced acidity, the wine smelled of bartlett pear, golden delicious apple, gooseberry, toasted almond, biscuit and sweet, dry grass. On the palate the mousse was small to medium sized and consistent, making it lively and fun. Dry, the green apple and pear flavours continued, with some tart red currant and underripe strawberry flavours. The toasted almond and brioche flavours completed the sip, with a medium + finish.

Pair this blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir with something slightly spicy and with good weight. Maybe a lobster risotto or creamy, cheesy polenta with spicy shrimp. Also extremely enjoyable to just toast to good times, no food required.
