Tread Softly Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Tread Softly Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Found this sustainability focused Sauvignon Blanc at Everything Wine recently. Great price and they plant trees for every case of wine sold - figured it was worth trying out. I love Sauv Blanc, and tend towards the Marlborough, but I do think it's important to branch out from there as the grape has a lot to offer and can vary greatly outside of New Zealand's most famous region.

An almost colourless wine, it's extremely pale lemon with hints of green. The nose was citrus and tropical with lemon, grapefruit, passion fruit and some green undertones of grass but what struck me the most was the incredible floral notes in the glass; white flowers like lilies. On the palate the wine was medium minus bodied and dry, and followed the nose very closely with floral notes front and center, along with grapefruit, lemon zest, guava and pineapple. Just a hint of grassiness and green flavours. Medium to medium plus acid and a medium length finish.

We paired this with a seafood green coconut curry and it worked nicely against the aromatics in the dish but something with a little more body and sweetness might do better next time. I'd suggest this wine with some aromatic Chinese dumplings with ginger and soy. I think the floral and citrus notes would work nicely and the body of the wine would level off better than with the creamy curry.
